ENGL 223 - Ethnic Writers in America ENGL 223 - Ethnic Writers in America (3,0) 3 Credits General Education Course: Humanities-English Literature, Global and Cultural Awareness This course explores the connections between ethnic identity and literature/culture in the United States. Focus will be the representation of life stories and cultural experiences by writers from differing ethnic communities and pasts, including literature by members of “old” and “new” ethnic groups in the United States: African Americans, East Asian/South Asian Americans, Native Americans, Latinos/as, “white” ethnics, and others. Students will explore themes such as ethnic and racial stereotypes, ethnicity and gender, assimilation versus cultural heritage and memory, translating experiences into a new culture and language, responses to myths about immigration and the “American Dream.” Course link
