CD 2183 — LANGUAGE AND SOCIAL SKILLS FOR

CHILDREN This course explores methods of skill development in encouraging children’s language and social development. Emphasis will be on 1) developing an understanding of emergent literacy theories and practices, 2) learning how to encourage classroom environments that foster positive dispositions toward literacy and 3) learning the processes and strategies for fostering young children’s writing skills, reading skills and second language acquisition skills. The course combines classroom instruction, hands- on activities and observations of children in group care. (Spring)
