ART 12800 — Ceramics I

An introduction to ceramics and an overview of the rich history and contemporary practices. Learn techniques of shaping clay into forms; including hand building and throwing on the potter's wheel. Various surface techniques are taught. Learning to work with one's hands through regular practice develops skill, discipline and confidence within the individual as well as an appreciation for and experience with humankind's continuing history of ceramic artisanship and ingenuity. Skill development will take place during class time. No previous art experience is necessary.
