ENG 21800 — Literary Journalism - Honors
An examination of journalism as it evolved into a hybrid form of narrative storytelling which emphasizes the lives of those affected by institutions rather than the institutions themselves. Through literary analysis and close reading, students will assess societal factors present in postwar America (1946-1980) which contributed to the development of the style of creative nonfiction made popular by writers like Joan Didion, Tom Wolfe and Truman Capote. Students will write several essays, including at least one research paper and a short creative project.
