ENG 23100 — African-American Literature I

This course is the first half of the basic survey in African American literature (18 th and 19 th centuries). We will read works of nonfiction (biography, essay, memoir, and/or autobiography), poetry, drama, and fiction in order to explore United States of America history and the development of the African American literary tradition. Writers include Equiano, Jacobs, Douglass, Wheatley, Brown, Harper and Dunbar.
