ENG 24100 — African American Literature II

This course is the second half of the basic survey in African American literature (1900 to present). We will read works of nonfiction (biography / essay / memoir / autobiography), poetry, drama and fiction in order to explore the role of United States history in the continuity of African American culture, ethnic identity, and the literary tradition. Writers include Ai, DuBois, Larsen, Hughes, Brooks, Baldwin, Morrison, Coates, Dove, Walker, Hansberry, Sundiata, Hurston, McGruder and Brandon-Croft.

Prerequisites: ENG 10100, ENG 10300, ENG 10200, ENG 10400
