The focus of this course is on prefixes, suffixes, word roots and their combining forms by review of each body system and specialty area. It also emphasizes word construction, spelling, usage, comprehension and pronunciation. Terms pertaining to the musculoskeletal, immune, endocrine, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal system will be covered. Developing Emotional Intelligence Students will learn how to interact, communicate and collaborate successfully with all types of people. Content areas will include: determining your current level of emotional intelligence, defuse tense situations, mediate conflicts and improve relationships. Learn how to become more confident when interacting with colleagues, team members, and superiors. Pain Assessment and Management Pain assessment and management is a crucial part of compassionate and effective patient care. Scientific advancements in the understanding of the mechanisms of pain, multidisciplinary methods of assessment and management, and the improvement of medications to treat pain will be covered. When working with patients who are in pain, this course will help you increase the accuracy of your pain assessment skills and assist you in becoming more effective in your pain management strategies. Time Management & Organizational Skills Is it possible to manage your time effectively when you are disorganized? This course combines two disciplines for a unique, integrated approach; you will regain control of your time and conquer clutter by getting organized. Tools and tips to manage your workday and home commitments will be presented. You will also learn about next-step thinking a cutting-edge, time management technique. CPR This course will provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of respiratory and cardiac emergencies until more advanced medical care arrives. In addition, the use of a resuscitation mask and a bag-valve mask will be taught. Gateway to Allied Health Professions Workplace Etiquette This course will review the code that governs the expectations of social behavior in a workplace. The course will review work etiquette which tells the individual how to behave when dealing with situations in a working environment however trivial the situation is. Learning to treat your colleagues with respect will gain you a winning edge and create a win-win situation for everyone at the workplace. Etiquette is about presenting yourself with the kind of polish that shows you can be taken seriously. Technology Skills This course is a basic introduction to the use of computers as a tool for creativity, communications, and organizing information. In this hands on class the student will navigate the internet using the address bar and search engines. The student will learn how to effectively research information and how to protect yourself from viruses. Also the student will learn email etiquette and how to set up an address book.
