COGA 103 — Design, Type, and Color
2 Lecture Hours, 2 Lab Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: ENGL 060 or ENGL 100 Course Fees: B, G This design and type course will focus on developing a student’s awareness of design elements including line, shape, value, color, texture, and space. The design principles of balance, proximity, alignment, unity, emphasis, and rhythm will be covered. Design concepts will be considered as they affect the fine arts, crafts, and commercial arts. Lettering explores the basic forms of hand lettering. The course will cover an overview of typography and issues of design with type. Typography covers basic type classifications and usage including the study of selection of proper type for specific purposes.
