DENT 107 — Dental Infection Control & Biomedical Science

2 Lecture Hours, 3 Lab Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: SPEH 101, DENT 101, ENGL 101 Corequisites: DENT 102, DENT 110, DENT 105 This course is designed to introduce the student, through lecture and lab, to the fundamental study of sterilization, infection control protocols, the transmission of infectious diseases, immunization, and applications of universal precautions. Students will learn basic microbiology, modes of transmission, and the asepsis techniques that will include sterilization, spore monitoring, and surface asepsis techniques in the dental setting. This course includes the proper Personal Protective Equipment needed to ensure proper care for patients and professionals. Students must receive a grade of ‘C’ or higher in all dental courses.
