DMSI 107 — Ultrasound Physics

3 credits · 3 hours

3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: DMSI 101, DMSI 104, and PHYS 103 This course challenges students with the fundamental physical principles of soundwaves and sonographic instrumentation requirements needed to successfully sit for the SPI board examination. Students will be able to describe sound waves using acoustic parameters and identify the relationship that each parameter has to one another. Students will learn to manipulate ultrasound equipment to provide quality assurance and minimize potential for bioeffects. Topics of ultrasound hardware/software, hemodynamics, doppler, optimizing image resolution, and the interaction of sound with various media are covered in this course.
