ENGL 101 — English Composition I

3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: ENGL 060 or ENGL 100 or Accuplacer Placement; Corequisite: ENGL 100 This course focuses on the study of rhetoric and provides students with extensive guided experience in writing essays to develop and strengthen skills through frequent and varied writing assignments. The course emphasizes critical reading and thinking skills, writing process, organization of material, syntax, rhetorical devices, and the concepts of audience, purpose, and form. Students develop information literacy through responsible research skills and the basic techniques of MLA documentation. Please note that to register for ENGL 102 – English Composition II, you need to receive a C grade or better in ENGL 101 – English Composition I.
