HPER 211 — Consumer Health Decisions
3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: ENGL 060 or ENGL 100 This course examines the rights and responsibilities of a consumer faced with increasing amounts of information related to his or her overall well-being. It examines the major problem of health fraud and the components of scientific research. The role of advertising is explored, as well as sound principles for purchasing nutrition, fitness and other health-related products and services. Students learn important concepts related to health insurance and hospitals, traditional and alternative medical care and how to better manage the decisions they make.
