MATH 117 — Structures of Mathematics II
3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: MATH 115 This course is designed primarily for elementary education majors. The course will require students to investigate problems in order to deepen their conceptual and procedural understanding in the areas of algebra, data analysis, probability, geometry, measurement, and systematic listing and counting. 3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: MATH 114 A continuation of MATH 110. Topics include angular measure, trigonometric functions, identities and equations, curve sketching, inverse trigonometric functions, applications on right triangles, oblique triangles, vectors, complex numbers, polar coordinates, and conic sections. This course is designed for students who may continue in math, science, technology, or business-related fields. General Education Category: Mathematics – Quantitative Knowledge and Skills (QKS) 3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: MATH 050, ENGL 060 This course presents the fundamentals of plane, solid and non-Euclidean geometries. Topics include the history of mathematical thought and reasoning, measurement, congruence, similarity, parallelism, perpendicularity, and methods of proof.
