SOCI 225 — Addictions Counseling

3 Lecture Hours, 3 Credits Prerequisites: PSYC 200 and SOCI 212 Students will be introduced to the techniques and approaches of addiction counseling that are grounded in research. This course includes a comprehensive and detailed study of application both in documentation and treatment of the 12 core functions. Emphasis will be on preparation for on-site practice and for eventual state and national licensure and certification. Students will recognize some core ethical dilemmas and general ways to approach them and develop approaches on working in difficult systems and how one’s own model of addiction and understanding of influences impact the view of the addicted client.
