3 credits · 3 hours

AMEC 356 - Applied Mechanics II AMEC 356 - Applied Mechanics II Description AMEC 356 will introduce you to the practical application of fluid mechanics in the power plant, including turbines, compressors, pumps, and other machines. Fluid properties, viscosity, pressure, forces in fluids and buoyant force will be explored. You will learn Bernoulli’s equation in a fluid system; pipe and tubing; the continuity law; the general energy equation; pumps and fluid motors, Reynolds’ number for fluid flow; type of fluid flow (laminar and turbulent), various types of pumps (dynamic and positive displacement), net positive suction head (NPSH), pump affinity laws, energy losses in fluids due to friction, and Moody charts. 3 Credits Time Guidelines The standard instructional time for this course is 60 hours.
