Using ecological systems theory, attachment theory, trauma-informed perspectives, and contemporary research, this course explores how individual development is influenced by family systems, peer networks, schools, communities, and culture. Students will analyze factors that promote healthy development as well as risks—such as trauma, adversity, and systemic inequities—that impact behavioral health. Emphasis in course content is placed on ing students understand youth and family functioning within the broader social environment context, preparing them to support children, adolescents, and families in effective ways.
