Students will practice duties and responsibilities of the role within the medical office including clinical and administrative functions, communication skills, and define the scope of practice for medical assistants. Students will perform basic skills found in a healthcare environment such as: medical asepsis, assisting with routine examinations, vital sign assessments, scribing duties, utilizing computers and maintaining equipment. Legal principles and regulations which affect the control, use and release of health information including HIPAA will be discussed.
