AUTO 105 — Introduction to Automotive Technology

3 credits · 3 hours

3 cr. This introductory prerequisite course will introduce students to workplace safety in the automotive shop. Safety topics will include shop hazards such as fire, airborne gases, blood borne pathogens, and chemical hazards. Equipment instruction will include the safe operation of an automotive lift and an introduction to oxygen-acetylene torches, among other shop equipment. Students will be introduced to the basics of identifying failures on the automobile and how to perform basic maintenance. Students will research vehicle inf ormation utilizing electronic technical information to determine the correct service procedures and specifications.
