BIOL 209 — Biology Research Experience Short Course

1 cr. This is a hands -on intensive laboratory course in molecular biology and bioinformatics. The specific research questions and techniques are different each year but will usually include RNA and DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequencing and data analysis. The curriculum will mix laboratory work with several informal seminars. This course is funded by an INBRE (IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) grant that SMCC has received from the NIH (National Institute of Health) to promote the biomedical research capacity in the state of Maine.
