This course studies the evolution of policing to the present day. Community policing is compared and contrasted with traditional policing organizations and management styles. Community policing theory and the identification of community problems underlying crime will be examined relating to the process and strategy of change. Problem solving effectiveness of community policing as a law enforcement strategy will be considered. A community service learning project for each student is an integral part of this cours e. This course has been designated as a writing -intensive course. Prerequisite(s): CJUS-105, ENGL-100 or ENGL-101 Corequisite(s): none
