CNMS 147 — Writing and Performance
This dynamic studio course is designed to immerse participants in the specialized art of screenwriting, with a primary focus on crafting scripts for live performance, film, and television. Drawing inspiration from established scripts and engaging i n the creation of original works, students will explore character development, script structure, and various modes of screenwriting. The curriculum integrates practical exercises, discussions, and readings, placing a distinct emphasis on the crucial skill of writing for performance. Through workshops and collaborative sessions, students will actively recite scripts, gaining firsthand experience in how written words translate into dynamic performances. This practical approach not only hones the craft of scre enwriting but also provides valuable insights into the nuances of writing for actors. The course adopts a practice -based methodology, concentrating on skill development in screenwriting, evaluating works -in-progress, and incorporating constructive feedback.
