MUSI 102 — Guitar Theory and Practice
Students will learn the fundamental techniques required to play the guitar with a plectrum. The course will cover the skills related to chord, scale and song playing, as well as an introduction to improvisation. Students will not be required to read standard musical notation and no previous experience is necessary. In addition to group lessons, weekly lectures will be presented on guitar history and theory. As a final project, students will be required to give a ten-minute presentation on a guitarist of their choosing. A short midterm and final playing/written exam will also be part of the final grade.
