ART 113 — Ceramics I

A studio course introducing clay as a medium of expression using ancient and modern forming techniques. The students will gain an understanding of hand building, wheel throwing, and alternative forming methods through application and practice. Emphasis will be placed on surface decoration through the application of stains, slips, engobes and glazes. Firing techniques including oxidation and gas reduction will be examined.
