SOC 220 — The So ciology of Sex and Gender

This class is an introduction to the sociological study sex and gender. The focus is on the major sociological perspectives including concepts, theories an ideas related to sex and the social construction of gender and how both factor into social stratification and gender role acquisition. Gender helps constitute our personal identities and shapes the social and cultural structures that impact our opportunities. The development and use of a sociological perspective will be emphasized to critically evaluate the individual and social consequences of changing social definitions of gender roles.
