ECE 262 — Early Language and Literacy Development Units: 3
This course is a hands-on, interactive introduction of early childhood language and literacy development for children from birth to age eight. Students will discuss research-based principles and practices to support language and literacy development, with an emphasis on the four main language domains: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The relationship between language and literacy development and cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development will be examined, as well as the integration of language and literacy into every curriculum area. Emphasis is placed on the importance of developmentally appropriate and play-based learning, as well as providing language and literacy-rich environments in the home and school settings.
