Before Jesus became an object of worship, and before Christianity, there was the historical Jesus, a man who lived in the Roman Empire, and was executed as a criminal. This class reviews Jesus historically by introducing students to historical methods of appraising the ancient sources written about him. Students will be able to hypothesize answers to questions, such as: Did Jesus exist? What are the key sources about his life? What do the historical sources tell us about his life? Why was he executed?.
