Principles and applications of environmental geochemistry on a global scale. Geochemical cycles and chemical mass balance of elements. Chemical weathering and the composition of natural waters. Processes affecting the distribution of trace elements in geologic environments. Stable isotope fractionation and applications to modeling environmental systems. Review of specific cases of modern environmental geochemistry problems. Independent research project required. Special Note: Students are required to have background in physical and historical geology. Not available for credit to students who have completed GEOL A463 .
