ESC 109 - Introduction to Meteorology 4 cr. ESC 109 - Introduction to Meteorology 4 cr. Designed for the science major, this course is an introduction to the scientific study of weather and climate. Topics include the composition and structure of the atmosphere; measuring and interpreting air temperature, pressure, and humidity; air masses and frontal systems; precipitation and storms; weather forecasting; weather’s impact on humans; and global climate change. In the laboratory portion of the class, students will learn to read and create weather maps, to obtain and use real‐time weather data from the Internet, and to understand the problems associated with modern weather forecasting. 3 hrs. lect.; 3 hrs. lab.
