Intended for students pursuing majors in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Basic laboratory skills covering fundamental principles of chemistry. Covers concepts of atomic and molecular structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, acid-base reactions, oxidation-reduction reactions, thermochemistry, characteristic properties of anions, gas laws, and spectrophotometry. Fundamental and applied concepts will be explored and enriched using a range of mathematical tools. The laboratory accompanies lecture CHEM 1173 and should be taken concurrently. This course contains a lab component. This course may have a course fee. prereq: Previous or concurrent enrollment in CHEM 1173 or 1153
