CRIM4340 — Racial Inequality and Crime
Starting from the foundation of race as a social construction, this course examines the intersection of race, ethnicity, gender, and class within the U.S. legal system and criminal justice practices. Class materials and assignments will analyze how historical and ongoing realities of racial privilege and disadvantage shape law and criminal justice practices in the realms of policing, legal prosecution and defense, bail, probation, judges, jury selection, sentencing, jails/detention centers/prisons, and the death penalty. prereq: CRIM 1301 or SOC 1101 or ANTH 1604 and 60 credits or instructor consent
