FREN3512 — MOS: French Graphic Genres

4 credits · 4 hours

Spanning the July Monarchy (1830) to the present, this course examines the interplay of word and image in early caricature, graphic editions of classic French novels, and the contemporary French graphic memoir. Whereas early on, this interplay enabled non-literate viewers to visualize the "others" of France's nascent Republic, contemporary graphic memoir promotes a sense of singularity imbued with significance and belonging. Students gain visual literacy and advanced reading skills in French. prereq or coreq: 3001
