HIST2005 — Oral History Methods

Introduction to the art of oral history, including research, project management, interview techniques, transcription, archiving, and ethics. Our readings and discussion will also examine the emotional and political dimensions of documenting personal stories. Active workshops on various methodological considerations will prepare students as oral historians. Student learning will be assessed through contributions to classroom discussion as well as other in-class assignments and several short essays. This seminar is a prerequisite for Hist 2006, Oral History Practicum
