HIST2007 — Critical Family History
Introduction to the tools and critical analysis of genealogy. Students will not be required to share personal information, but will get hands-on experience researching individual family history (their own or those of public figures). Students will explore how to place such stories in social and cultural context. The history of genealogy as a practice connected with dynastic power, racial hierarchies, and other world historical dynamics will also be examined. This course supports the development of skills useful for future careers in public history, librarianship, and archival work. prereq: any 1xxx history course
