The first half of this course will introduce students to key terms, scholarship, and interpretive methods for both analog and digital games from the field of Game Studies. We will explore questions about representation in both mechanics and narrative, seeking to interrogate how systems like masculinity, heteronormativity, and imperialism influence who is assumed to be the audience and creators of games. In the second half, students will play and analyze different games to practice applying the skills they learned. Possible final projects may include designing a short visual novel game, updating older game scenarios, or running games for the wider Morris community. prereq: 1007 (or 1601) or equiv
