IS3265H — Honors:Cervantes's Don Quixote
Miguel de Cervantes's sequential novels that comprise the masterpiece known as Don Quixote (published in 1605 and 1615) provide a rich canvas through which to revel in the adventures (and misadventures) of the famous knight errant Don Quixote and his faithful squire Sancho Panza while analyzing the context of early modern Spanish socio-history and culture. By studying this highly influential work of literature from an interdisciplinary perspective—encompassing socio-history, culture, visual arts, cinema—, we will consider, among other topics, how its racism, xenophobia, and sexism often belie a more progressive perspective with regard to many of these same issues. prereq: participation in Honors program
