NAIS3002 — Peopling the Americas

4 credits · 4 hours

This course will begin by exploring current theories and evidence for the Peopling of the Americas. Our explorations will expand beyond the purely historical into broader methodological, ethical, and ontological discussions, including: comparing Indigenous/tribal and scientific epistemologies; the trouble with genetics, especially in the era of 23 and me; the sociopolitical attachments to certain American origin stories; and what the future holds in terms of Indigenous archeology as a growing field.
