SSA1026 — Mindfulness 101
Mindfulness 101 introduces students to mindfulness concepts and practices – peer reviewed, evidence based set of skills for health and wellbeing in sports and life. The course draws from the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults curriculum created by Duke University. Mindfulness practices have been shown to increase positive self talk and self-compassion, reduce stress levels, and improve relationships. Mindfulness and meditation practices are positively correlated with improved memory, greater academic success, and better sleep. This course will include an introduction to mindfulness, associated skills, and practice. Mindfulness is also an important strategy in sport psychology practices that include controlling attention, body awareness, and imagery/visualization.
