TH3008 — Fabric Modification

This course will teach students creative techniques and skills to develop their current creative skill set and portfolio by exploring how one can use dyes, stamps, transferring images onto fabric, embroidery work, silk painting, marbling, distressing and more to be able to move a story and plot forward in a production or project. Students will complete a culminating assignment that allows them to apply the technical skills they have learned by creating and executing their own projects to be added to a final portfolio that will be set to industry standards. Students will participate in class to develop the skills on how to dye fabrics in various styles, including shibori, creating stamps for fabric modification, transferring images onto fabric, embroidering thread and beading onto fabric with the use of basic hand skills, and learning basic sewing machine skills to manipulate fabric for the various modifications above.
