HIT140 — Health Care Reimbursement
3 Credits Students develop an understanding of healthcare billing and reimbursement. Students will learn about health insurance plans and how to submit healthcare claims to the insurance companies for reimbursement and the related legal and regulatory guidelines for reimbursement. Compliance strategies and reporting will be discussed. Students will learn to input patient demographic information, insurance information, post payments to patient accounts, run financial reports as well as patient statements. The ethical standards of practice for billing and coding will be discussed. Prerequisites: HCTAL 101 - Medical Terminology , HIT 120 - Introduction to Health Information Management (with a grade of C or better)
