3 Credits This course introduces the bankruptcy process and bankruptcy practice. The course teaches students how to prepare and file a bankruptcy petition and how to protect the rights of creditors. Subjects include: the automatic stay, exceptions to discharge, means testing, mortgages, and lift-stay actions, expectations, preference, secured loans and reaffirmation agreements, the role of trustees, and using the PACER and ECF electronic systems shared by the Federal and Bankruptcy courts. Notes: Prior to Fall 2024, was PRLGL 126 - Bankruptcy Law for Paralegals Pre or Corequisites: LAW 103 - Introduction to Legal Studies
