Overview of theory applications of selected current surface and microanalysis techniques including the atomic force microscope. Comparisons are made to optical microscopy. Theory and application of X-ray diffraction. Explores the relationships among chemistry, microscopic structure, and properties of engineering materials. Qualitative X-ray microanalysis of metal matrix composites. Emphasis on technical writing of laboratory reports. Grade only. at least every two years. Course Registration
