CMST 494 - Teaching and Coaching Oral Communication (Grades 5-8) CMST 494 - Teaching and Coaching Oral Communication (Grades 5-8) (2 credits) Prospective teachers work with national and state standards for the teaching of communication arts in grades 5-8. Lesson plans in the areas of listening and interpersonal communication are written, taught, and assessed by peers and self. A unit plan in public speaking for the 8th grade level is created. Discussions about coaching extracurricular activities in the communication arts are focused at the level of the beginning, or assistant, coach. Grade only. annually (usually spring semester).
