EDFD 331 - Teaching Social Studies in Secondary Schools EDFD 331 - Teaching Social Studies in Secondary Schools (3 credits) This course introduces students to the philosophical and curricular foundations of social studies education, with a focus on preparing informed, engaged citizens. Emphasis is placed on disciplinary literacy-supporting students in reading, writing, and critical thinking within social studies contexts. Students will engage in curriculum planning and instructional design, learning to develop inclusive, inquiry-based learning experiences that reflect best practices in social studies teaching. A required field experience provides opportunities for observation and guided reflection on instructional practices in real classroom settings. Grade only. annually (usually fall semester). This course may be retaken once due to student withdrawal or earning less than C grade. Course Registration
