EEOL 307 - Social Studies in the Elementary Classroom EEOL 307 - Social Studies in the Elementary Classroom (2 credits) This course equips teacher candidates with the skills and content knowledge to teach social studies in elementary classrooms using a problems-based approach. Covering Minnesota social studies standards, candidates will learn to apply inquiry and problem-solving tools. They will gather expert resources and develop lessons that promote collaborative, self-directed learning, and equity. Candidates will also explore theories of race and ethnicity, challenge assumptions about diverse students, and identify examples of prejudice and racism. They will understand how social and cultural practices influence teaching and develop strategies for pedagogical equity. The course includes integrating the histories of racialized groups and exploring Indigenous perspectives. At the conclusion, candidates will be prepared to implement inclusive and equitable social studies lessons. Grade only. annually (usually fall semester). Course Registration
