MUS 113 - Women in Music MUS 113 - Women in Music (3 credits) Meets GOAL 6 (Fine Arts) and GOAL 7. This course is designed as an exploration into the musical contributions of women throughout documented history. We will discuss the ways in which women have used their agency and perspective to shape musical discourse as performers, composers, teachers, patrons, consumers, and activists. Course material will consider how gender has/continues to impact contributions to both Western and non-Western musical traditions, and genres such as opera, musical theatre, film, and popular music. Prior musical knowledge is not required.An overview of the contributions made by women in creating, performing, teaching, and commissioning music. This course will examine the role of women in Western art and popular music, and in music of non-Western cultures. Grade only. annually or when demand warrants. Course Registration
