PESS 237 - Introduction to Adapted Physical Activity PESS 237 - Introduction to Adapted Physical Activity (3 credits) This course is designed to introduce future teachers to teaching physical education to PK-12 students with disabilities. Course content includes general characteristics of selected disabilities and how these disabilities impact a person’s movement potential and performance, the federal and state laws pertaining to the education of PK-12 students with disabilities, the process of special education referral and placement of students in the least restrictive environment, appropriate physical education teaching methods to use for inclusive instructional settings, adapted teaching techniques for motor development, health-related fitness, sport/recreational skills, and aquatics; and behavior management techniques.
