SOC 421 - Sociology of the City SOC 421 - Sociology of the City (3 credits) This course addresses the sociological study of cities and understanding issues that cities face, from the past to the present. The course will examine the growth, structure, and function of cities, urban diversity and the heterogeneity of race, gender, sexuality, culture, economy, and politics. It will also cover urban inequities such as residential segregation and redlining, gentrification, urban sprawl, poverty, climate injustice, and food deserts. The course explores the future possibilities of creating a smart and equal city by transforming the built environment and policies to improve public transportation and making it walkable, affordable, inclusive, and resilience.
