ACM 115 — Animal Science Careers
/3 contact hours This is an introductory level course to review the different career pathways available in the world of animal care and veterinary medicine. The course will review requirements and expectations of common career pathways in the animal science field including Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Assisting, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, canine training, pet stores, kennel attendants, and grooming. Students will learn about basic first aid care, basic training, use of animals in research, and basic nutrition in various species. Students will also learn about the important support organizations and governing bodies in the animal world. Hospice and euthanasia will also be introduced to students during this course. This course requires a shadowing experience at a Maine animal business or clinic with approval from the Program Director. Core fulfilled: None
