CJS 170 — Criminal Investigation & Case Preparation
/3 contact hours Criminal Investigation & Case Preparation introduces students to the fundamental principles, procedures, and techniques employed in the investigation of a crime and preparation of a case for trial. Methods of establishing probable cause to seek a criminal complaint or indictment will be taught. The effect of the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments to the United States Constitution on preliminary and follow-up investigations will be examined. Students will learn case management strategies; crime scene integrity; investigative and information gathering techniques; methods of evidence identification, preservation, and collection; interview and interrogation techniques; report writing; pre–trial preparation; and courtroom procedures.
