SWO 150 — Introduction to Social Work

/3 contact hours This course is an introduction to the profession of social work. Students are introduced to the core values and related code of ethics of social work and are exposed to issues of diversity, oppression, and social justice. The practice of social work is considered from the perspective of a collaborative strengths–based model working with complex social service systems. The course familiarizes students with various roles, functions, and tasks that social workers perform in a variety of settings and acquaints students with the primary skills and practices of professional social work.
